You may file a charge (complaint) with the EEOC by submitting it online, via mail, or by calling or visiting your area EEOC office. Chargess must be filed within 180 days of the discriminatory event. This time period can be extended to 300 days in some instances. A complaint must include information about you, your employer and the discrimination alleged. Specifically:
A charge may be dismissed after intake if it appears to have little chance of success, or if it is something that EEOC doesn’t have the authority to investigate. In these instances, the EEOC will not notify the employer of the charge, conduct an investigation nor offer mediation. |
